There are multiple different options for filtering information on the Internet for children. 


Firstly, you have the option within your browser(s) to filter websites accessible for children. Some helpful tips for that are located below: 
Chrome does not have the built in capability to block entire websites however you should be able to block certain content in websites at the following webpage: chrome://settings/content (Hint: Most modern websites use JavaScript so if you block a site from using that; the website should not work or only work partially; you can edit those settings here: chrome://settings/content/javascript)

(Keep in mind for this option that you may block a URL but that does not mean the filter will block the whole website. So for example, just because you blocked www.facebook.com does not mean www.facebook.com/users is blocked.)

Secondly, You can filter websites by creating users with restricted permission Settings on your device of the Mac or Windows device.

Thirdly, there are various software(s) you can install to help lock down your computer from harmful content as well.

Fourthly, There are browser extensions that act as a blocking software for unneeded content. (There are extensions with built in lists that will block Ads, porn, unwanted websites etc.)

Similarly, malware can be caught not just on malicious websites but malicious downloads, ads etc. Malware likes to hide in various different ads on game websites or even Christian websites. Malware is hard to get away from in todays environment.
